Target grid Test cricket
Download and take away: Target grid Test cricket
What do you need?
A wall, fence or garage door, 1 set of stumps, 1 tennis ball or MILO Kiwi Cricket ball, chalk
How do you play?
1. Place the set of stumps in front of a wall, fence or garage door and mark a target grid on the ground using chalk as shown in the diagram
2. Alternatively set up a permanent target grid on a sheet of plastic, carpet or artificial grass by using masking tape
3. The numbers on the target grid represent what an imaginary batter might score off a delivery if the ball bounces in that part of the grid, or if it bounces off the grid, or hits the wall on the full
4. The batter’s score then depends upon where the ball first bounces
5. The bowler takes a wicket by landing the ball in the square marked ‘out’ or by hitting the stumps
6. The aim of the game is to take 10 wickets and dismiss the opposition team for the lowest possible score
Variations:
- Change the size and/or shape of the target grid
- Compete against one or more other bowlers
- Play a test match against a friend. Each of you decide which of the current test teams you are. Write down the name of the batters in each team and then take turns to dismiss your opposition batters. Record how many runs each batter scores and after 10 dismissals the total for each team. The team with the most runs wins the test
