Drive shot with Ross Taylor

Key points:

    • Like every shot you need to keep your head still, eyes level and focused on the ball
    • As the bowler delivers the ball, swing the bat straight back straight and keep your hands in close to the body, cocking the wrists
    • At the same time step toward the line of the ball, dipping your shoulder and bend your front knee to keep the head down
    • Your back leg should be straight and the back foot anchored
    • Swing the bat down straight to hit the ball with the full face of the bat beneath the eyes
    • Follow through in the intended direction of the ball so the arms are fully extended and the bat finish high
    • You can practice this by putting a ball in an old sock or stocking and tying it to the washing line. Go on – have a go.
